#VeetAsks: Has it always been your dream to become a beauty queen?
MJ: I grew up in a war zone area. It never occurred to me that I would be able to win the title of being a beauty queen. When I joined my first pageant, I found out that being a beauty queen meant inspiring a lot of people in so many ways. I guess that made me decide to continue on. I am beyond thankful for getting to where I am now.
#VeetAsks: What were the most valuable lessons you learned as you entered the world of beauty pageants?
MJ: Don’t get tired of chasing your dreams. I joined Binibining Pilipinas thrice before clinching the crown. It was a long journey. I realized that dreaming for something as big as that takes a whole lot of dedication and hard work. I shouldn’t just sit and wait for things to happen. I needed to do something so I could turn my dream into a reality.
#VeetAsks: You’ve made your mark as a beauty queen. What else do you want to achieve in life?
MJ: I want to learn new things. Right now I’ve been blessed to get opportunities to try acting. It’s quite challenging. You really need to focus on your work. I hope I can do more light, heartwarming shows that will make families smile and ordinary people dream big.
#VeetAsks: What makes a woman beautiful and confident?
MJ: To me, it’s all about being yourself. Embrace your makeup-free skin. Wear your style. When a woman knows how to be herself, she is able to radiate that genuine beauty and confidence she’s looking for.
#VeetAsks: What advice would you give to your younger self?
MJ: Be brave to face the challenges life may give you. When you go through something bad, always remember that God has bigger plans for you. You may not get it now, but in the right time, you will eventually get to appreciate the lessons you learn along the way.
