Is it just us or has it been getting progressively hotter and hotter? It seems like the heat will never let up! Lucky for us, the trends are in our favor. Cropped silhouettes, floaty fabrics, cut outs – summer may be waning, but the heat is here to stay for a while. Might as well keep cool while we stay stylish.
Crop tops have been on the radar since 2010, so what has changed this season? We’re seeing looser silhouettes and slightly longer lengths. Instead of baring half your torso, we like showing a sliver of skin instead – it seems sexier to just let a peek slip through while paired with a high-waisted skirt. Cotton and jersey fabrics are so good with the hot weather, and we’re not going for skin-tight anymore. It’s cooler (and more forgiving) this way.
The slit skirt is never going to go away, so don’t hesitate to add it to your closet. Amazing for easy breezy dressing with a slight boho feel, the new slit skirts are a bit more daring. Let the slits go as high as your dignity will allow, or have fun and let the double slitted skirts add a new silhouette to your repertoire. Our favorite vision? Wearing a gauzy slit skirt on a breezy day, and letting glimpses of our gams peek through – a girl can dream right?
Cut outs are a lifesaver when the weather is sweltering – they’re basically like built-in air vents! The usual shoulder and collarbone cut outs are going strong, but decolletage and torso cut outs are building up steam. Some dresses go for waist and even hip cut outs – if you’re confident, go for it! Too shy for a cut out? Some more demure versions have mesh inserts instead to cover up bare skin – it’ll still help you cool off!
Pastels always trend during spring, and this year is no different. Lighter colors make you feel less hot so embrace this particular trend. Avoid looking too cloying and cute by picking pastel clothes in structural shapes – how cute would a short suit be in mint green? Fresh, clean and crisp – these are what these pastels are supposed to invoke.
Always a staple, the sandal weaves in and out of trendiness but never actually goes away. Sandals are always a good standby to rely on, and sometimes we really need a break from those super cute but super deadly five-inch heels, amirite? This season’s offerings are equal parts glam, and minimalist – depending on the trend. Oh, and just so you know: gladiators are back.
